I led this walk with 5 walking. The 5 of us met at the Shed by 8.00AM. The day turned out to be quite warm with strong winds bringing a mixture of dust and smoke thus making it an unpleasant day.
We started walking at 8.08AM and walked down and along the path next to Ginninderra Drive until we turned under Ginninderra Ck following the nice path along its eastern side. On the way we stopped to view the historic Steeping Stones crossing of the creek. We continued on the east side to reach Kippax centre where we visited the Lucky Shot Cafe. The area both sides of the Creek between Ginninderra Drive and close to Southern Cross Drive near Kippax are part of Umbagong District Park.

Bob deviated slightly to Maccas to get their soft serve as he believed Lucky Shot’s milk shakes were a ripoff. i.e. half the size and twice the price ! Arriving late at the cafe in an bad mood as the Maccas soft serve was out of order, he was surprised to see Harry’s gigantic milk shake for only $5. I think Bob has now repented and sees the value in the Luck Shot Milk shakes. Leaving Kippax we continued back but went on the west side after passing under Southern Cross drive. We then continued along the creek path as the weather deteriorated with strong winds carrying dust and smoke and buffeting us all the way back to Melba which we reached at 11.07AM.
Along the creek on the way we had deviated down to Ginninderra Ck off the path by around 50m to check out a likely spot for possible grinding grooves. You can see about the Park and the grinding grooves in this ACT Historical Council Information Note on the Park and the Grooves. However due to the windy and hot weather we did not spend much times looking for the grinding grooves.
Easy-Medium social walk of 9.6Km taking 2hrs 59m incl breaks.
