9 Mar 2017 The Pinnacle & Old Weetangera Cemetery with Melba Shed
I led this walk with a total of 7 of us walking. 5 of us met at the Shed by 7.30AM then drove in 1 car to a parking spot along Springvale Drive Hawker. Here we met 2 more who came by motor bike & push bike.
Then at 7.55AM we walked down to a trail & along boundary to an underpass under William Hovell Drive & then to the historic Weetangera Methodist Cemetery with the oldest gravestone being 1875. Some of the Southwells who were the early settlers in the district are were buried there.

We then walked back along some of the same route but this time closer to the Hawker houses & finally to the Pinnacle itself before returning to the cars by 10.46AM. We were shown the location of Ian’s old house in Hawker that he used to own that backed onto the reserve.
Finally we finished with coffee at the Rocksalt Cafe in Hawker. Note the Rocksalt is only open now from 7AM to 5PM.
While at the cafe we were rung by Wally K using Facebook Messenger hands free telling us about his current visit to Nagasaki in Japan.
We mostly made it home by 12PM midday.
This was an Easy-Medium walk of 8.1Km, taking around 2hrs 50min. Some small climbs and mostly on formed tracks
Walkers: Bob Salmond, Drew McDonald, Ian de Plater, John Edge, John Marsh, Terry Mether, Greg Hutchison Drivers: John M, Drew (motor bike), Ian (cycle).
