6 of us met at the Shed by 9.00AM, then drove in 2 cars to a parking spot at NW corner of the Gungahlin Lakes Club. Here we were met by 3 more who drove themselves. Then from just after 9.30AM on a cold (about 1C) & frosty morning we walked anticlockwise through the eastern portion of Ngunnawal. At the top end of Paul Coe Cres near the intersection with Mirrabei Drive we came upon three concrete statues of kangaroos, one with a joey in its pouch. Of course some of the guys had to pose with the statues. The we went across Yerrabi Pond dam wall & along eastern shore, stopping at Samekesh Cafe for coffee etc. It was a warm & welcoming cafe. Recommended for any walker or cyclist passing by. We then left & then went west over the foot bridge, back around the pond stopping to view the amazing pelican statues in the lake & on some fallen timber. Then we took a broad path up through Amaroo & along some footpaths, west until we reached Crinigans Hut or Stone Cottage ruin near Mirrabei Drive. Then crossing Ginninderra Ck we looked for a plaque that commemorates the old Malton Homestead that is supposed to be buried under Mirrabei Drive, but didn’t find it. Then we took an underpass under the drive, shortly reaching the top of Ngunnawal Ridge which offered great views all around over Gungahlin. Then we went down along the ridge until we reached the Girawah park site which commemorates an Aboriginal Procurement site. Finally we returned to the cars by 12.30PM and were back home by 1PM. The 2nd part of the walk was in fine, sunny but cool weather.

The walk was Easy-Medium, distance was 9.1Km.
