2022 09 01 Hospital, Forestry & Franks Huts Namadgi with MelbaShed
This was a 11.1Km Medium walk with 5 of us from Melba Shed in Namadgi Nat’l Park, to Forestry Hut, then Hospital Ck Hut for lunch and back via Frank and Jacks Hut. This was Melba Shed walk No 278 of 1st Sep 2022.

I led this walk with 5 of us walking. We all met at Melba Shed by 8.00AM & drove in 2 cars to the Yankee Hat Car Park along the Old Boboyan Road, in the Gudgenby Valley, in Namadgi National Park.
Initially we went up Boboyan Pines Trail (Boboyan FT4) & visited the Forestry Hut briefly then continued along the trail where we walked up & over a crest to then stop for a short break.
Continuing south we rejoined the Old Boboyan Trail for a further 1.4Km before turning left for 300m to reach the Hospital Ck Hut. Here we had lunch & rested whilst we had tea or coffee with water boiled on Greg’s small gas stove.
We noted some pig diggings around the hut area. We then went back up to the Old Boboyan Rd & returned north along it for 1.9Km to then turn west & take the Bogong Ck FT for 750m to visit the Frank & Jacks Hut for another short break.
We then returned back to the Old Boboyan Rd for 2Km to the Cars. We noted on the return journey how the recent heavy rains had badly eroded the trails we used. Some of the erosion ruts were quite deep.
We didn’t have any issues with our 2 x SUVs crossing the two legs of Hospital Creek that flowed over the dirt road section of the Old Boboyan Road section we had to drive before reaching the main bitumen surface of the main Boboyan Road.
This was a relatively easy type of walk being relatively simple with with a couple of small climbs on trails and no navigation issues.
We left the car park around 9.55AM & returned around 2.50PM walking 11.1Km taking 4hrs 45m, including 1hr 10m at Hospital Ck for lunch & 20m break at Franks Hut. Some of us did another 200m or so at Hospital Creek actually going to check out the creek. For driving we left Melba (Canberra) at 8AM and reached Yankee Hat Car Park around 9.40AM and on the return we left around 3PM and were back at Melba just after 4.30PM.
The walk was Medium of 11.9 Km taking some 4.45hrs.
