2019 04 18 Black Mountain & ANBG Circuit with MelbaShed
This was a walk to the top of Black Mountain as well as around parts of the southern precincts linking to the ANBG Bushland Walk, in Canberra. Walking Black Mountain offers superb views over Canberra City as well as Lake Burley Griffin. We stopped in the gardens to have coffee, tea, a milkshake and snacks at the Pollen Cafe. This was a Melba Shed walk

6 of us met at the Shed by 8AM, then drove in 2 cars to Frith Rd behind the CSIRO parking next to the corner as access to the Civic West Substation on Frith Rd was blocked due to new electrical cables being laid down past the ANBG fence to the ANU.
Then from 8.22AM we walked up the main trail to Black Mtn top, then down to the Forest Trail, around it to a series of old multiple lookouts until we could drop down to another car park on the main ascent road.
We then crossed the main Road up and took a trail on the south side down to the ANBG Bushland Walk Viewing Platform. Then it was down their track to the ANBG, stopping for coffee at the Pollen Cafe, then though the edge of the ANBG to get out through the CSIRO gate, and back to the cars using a small diversion due to the cable laying.

Coffee, Tea, shakes and snacks were good at the Pollen Cafe. Here John Edge joined us for a break.
We reached the cars at 11.12AM, thus taking 2 hrs 50m including breaks.
It was a Medium walk, of 6.4Km.
The track up to the top is quite steep but views are just superb.
Walkers: Bob Salmond, Colin Fitzpatrick, Neville Viney, Peter Coppin, Tony Weir, Greg Hutchison.
