    2018 03 15 Mt Stromlo with MelbaShed

I led this walk, with 5 of us walking . We drove to parking spot along Uriarra Rd via Coppins Crossing and Denman Prospect. Here we met Drew and his motor bike. We then climbed on 4WD & forest trails to Mt Stromlo for coffee at the cafe & returned to the cars using a steep descent trail called Casuarina Climb that bikes only climb up. We also viewed some of the heritage sites & historic graves on the top. This was a MelbaShed walk

5 walked. 4 of us met at the Shed by 8AM & drove to Uriarra Rd near western Stromlo Forest Park Car park where we met 1 more. From 8.33AM we then walked along a bike trail named Dead Gum Dam Trail until it turned away when we continued on an old 4WD trail until reaching a more modern maintained trail that we could continue along as we climbed higher reaching Mt Stromlo  where we looked at numerous historic signs and some old buildings before stopping for coffee at the cafe. We then continued to the top and historic graves before using a steep descent trail called Casuarina Climb that bikes only climb up as we returned to the cars by 12.08PM.

There were great views over to the west of the Brindabella Ranges with the new Cotter dam in the foreground and also great views north over Belconnen through to Gungahlin as well as across the fields and forest of the North Brindabellas.

The walk was Medium walk, distance of 8.7Km, mostly on dirt management trails & some grass & dirt bike tracks, with a climb of around 140m overall. We took around 3hrs 35mins including breaks.
