6 walked. 5 of us met at the Shed by 8AM then drove in 2 cars to the parking spot along Horse Park St, where we met one more. Starting from around 8.30AM we walked a circular walk to Sammys Hill, then Old Joe then along border to Gecko Hills, then to Burnt Stump Hill. Early on we left the main track and headed across grassy paddocks to a corner gate and on the way came across a small brown snake basking in the early morning sun. He quickly retired to a hole under the grass. We also crossed the early stages of Sullivans Ck which is quite degraded and has formed a deep gully before reaching the crest of Sammy’s Hill (727m) which affords great views over Throsby & across to Gungahlin Town centre. On the way down we ad-libbed across open ground & had to climb a fence to regain the main trail. On Old Joe (813m) which has views across to the Brindabellas, down to the Airport & also as far as Woden, we stopped for morning tea sharing our spot with a Shingleback Lizard. We continued along the border stopping next at the original border marker X4, then up to the Gecko Hills (789m) with more views then down to the main trail & up the Burnt Stump Hill (712m) before coming down the ridgeline & back onto the track back to the cars. On the way up to Burnt Stump we came across our second Echidna of the walk. 5 of us then then partook of coffee & milk shakes at Frankies @ Forde.

Views. These were some good views over Gungahlin region, also North Canberra and down to the airport. We could also look down on top of the Wattle Valley Homestead in NSW and across to the Eagle Hawk hotel and resort. We also came upon numerous Kangaroos some with joeys in the pouch.

The walk was Medium-Hard, distance was 10.9Km,on mostly dirt management trails & some grass tracks, with a couple of small hills to climb. We took around 4 hrs.
